Media Networks was founded in February 2000 by Colin Tinto, Michael
Tortolano, Berrie Bloem and Richie McBride. The four founders, who
had met whilst working at a large networking company, noticed that
the rapid improvements in PC processor speeds would allow even mid-range
PCs to achieve PVR (Personal Video Recorder) capabilities.
At the time this was something that was only available as a separate
and costly hardware solution, but because PCs had so much more functionality
to offer ShowShifter was developed to incorporate all aspects of
home entertainment in a single distanced-based, remote-enabled interface
that would allow the PC to be as convenient to use as conventional
home entertainment products such as TVs and VCRs.
Home Media Networks' development lab is based in Edinburgh, Scotland
whilst the commercial centre is based near Gatwick, South of London.
